Respecting the drip line of a mature pōhutukawa, the program responds sensitively to the site’s steep, remote terrain. It treads lightly above the land, minimizing disturbance while opening itself to expansive sightlines and prevailing coastal breezes.
The space consciously divides itself into two sleeping zones with lounging in the centre. Each zone is carefully oriented to frame and celebrate the colossal pōhutukawa, which stands at the heart of the site and serves as the experiential focal point.
